City of Troy closes Sanctuary for Independent Media due to "code violations" a.k.a. "We Don't Like Your Art"

The Sanctuary for Independent Media has now been closed by the city of Troy, NY due to code violations. The Sanctuary for Independent Media was the site of a protest staged yesterday by Bob Mirch, the GOP majority leader of the Rensselaer County Legislature. The protest was staged due to the Sanctuary's continuation of Chicago artist Wafaa Bilal's "The Night of Bush Capturing: A Virtual Jihadi" installation. The Sanctuary picked up this installation after the RPI gallery and arts building was shut down after the university deemed the show "inappropriate."

What we had was a private institution shutting down an exhibit becuase it found the material to be inappropriate. Now we have the city of Troy shutting down a building because of art they don't like.
